Cytopathology, or cytology, is a diagnostic technique used to examine cells from tissues or fluids under a microscope. This method is widely utilized in healthcare to screen for and diagnose conditions, particularly cancer, and requires only small samples for analysis.
Exfoliative Cytology : Involves examining cells that are either naturally shed by the body or manually collected by brushing or scraping tissue.
Aspiration/Intervention Cytology : Involves using a fine-needle aspiration (FNA) to extract fluid or cells from deeper tissues for examination.

Though cytology is generally safe, there is a slight risk of false-negative or false-positive results. Biopsies are sometimes preferred for more comprehensive tissue analysis.
Our director, Dr. Vrinda Garg (MD, Pathology), brings over 15 years of experience in cytopathology. A member of IAPM, she has reported more than 10,000 FNACs (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytologies) with precision, diagnosing both common and rare conditions. She has trained and worked at renowned institutions, including GMC Amritsar, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Max Super Speciality Hospital in Delhi. Her fields of interest include Thyroid, Breast Cytology, Bone Marrow Aspirates and Malignant Cytology.
